Textile and garment orders in Vietnam witnessed a rise early this year after COVID-19 vaccination started on a large scale. Enterprises in the sector expect market opportunities will help the industry overcome its difficulties and gradually restore revenue levels to that seen before the outbreak of the pandemic. This has helped boost the export turnover of the industry.

CPTPP boosts Vietnam's exports, pandemic a mild dampener

Vietnam's exports to its partners in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) grew considerably to $34.3 billion in 2019 before dropping marginally to $34 billion last year due to the covid-19 pandemic, a two-year review of the trade deal by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has found.

With the official coming into force of the UK-Vietnam free trade agreement (UKVFTA) on May 1, 2021, Vietnam's apparel exports to the UK are expected to improve significantly. The UKVFTA, signed on December 29 last year and temporarily applied since January 1, removes almost all customs duties between the two countries when fully implemented.
