Vietnam’s textiles and garment industry has long been a crucial sector to the Vietnam economy and one of the key Vietnam export products.  However, the sector is facing with some social and environmental issues that pose a significant potential reputational risk for the textile sector as a whole.

Greening Vietnam’s textile sector through improving water management and energy sustainability is a project sponsored by HSBC Bank is designed to make contribution to improve the sustainability of the textile sector in Vietnam. Also the project is aiming to build the relationship with textile brands and suppliers at national level and within Mekong Delta area including Ho Chi Minh City to advocate for sustainable water and energy.

Under the framework of cooperation between Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) and World Wide Fund for Nature in Vietnam (WWF-Vietnam) on promoting Greening Vietnam’s textile sector, VITAS collaborated with WWF-Vietnam to organize Launch Event of “High Resolution Mekong Regional Water Risk Filter and the Report on Exploring Water Risks and Solutions for the Textile Sector in Vietnam (in 28th November 2018) and Workshop on Identifying Approaches to Promote River Stewardship in Textile Sector in Vietnam (in 29th November 2019)

Participants will receive a demonstration on the new functionalities of WWF’s Water Risk Filter with most recent data inputs from regional, national and local levels. You will also hear an overview of the findings from VITAS and WWF’s joint Textile Sector Report, in particular on our recommendations for action to mitigate water risks, and a brief overview of how WWF plans to take forward the insights from the report.
